Something that caught my eye on social media and disappointed me was an article found on Yahoo, but from The Wire, announcing that Kelly Rowland is expecting her first child with husband and manager, Tim Weatherspoon. This is of course is a beautiful thing and a happy time for the singer, but what disappointed me was the fact that the entire story, along with the title, Kelly Rowland Pregnant with Future Personal Assistant to Blue Ivy, was less about celebrating, and more about straight dissing Rowland. Considering that I’ve met Rowland (and she’s super sweet), I didn’t understand why this person seemed so hellbent on trying to s**t on something worth celebrating like pregnancy and motherhood, but Mr. Price Peterson tried it. Here’s just part of what he said in a piece that included a photo of Beyoncé and Jay Z…:
Blue Ivy needs a posse. Well! It appears that former Destiny’s Child Kelly Rowland has heeded that need (or at least has moved to honor a Beyoncé-decreed legal obligation) and has become pregnant! That’s right, following her whirlwind romance, Skype engagement, and under-publicized wedding to a gentleman named Tim Witherspoon, Kelly Rowland has announced her pregnancy on Instagram! The cryptic announcement was really just a pair of baby Air Jordans next to a regular-sized pair and the caption “I’ll be stuntin like my daddy.” That’s about it as far as pregnancy confirmations, though, so please be advised this entire incident miiight just be an example of a woman buying baby clothes for herself before getting pregnant. Would you put that sort of thing past Kelly Rowland? Don’t answer that. Let’s just assume she’s pregnant. But I know what you’re thinking: How exactly could a possible boy-child become the first member of Blue Ivy’s “ma gurls”? That is for you and your outdated gender notions to work through. Congratulations to Kelly Rowland and Blue Ivy Carter! May the future Rowland-Witherspoon child be as fastidious at signing non-disclosure agreements as he/she will be at carrying out Starbucks orders.
I don’t know if Peterson thought he was being comical or if he really has some type of personal beef with Rowland’s fabulous self, but the people who saw the article made it very clear that his statements were disrespectful and unacceptable:
“Price Peterson, You Insensitive, Inconsiderate Piece of #$%$…You should be ashamed of yourself. This is not your phone, its not a personal text message, its Yahoo”
“Can someone please tell me why a picture of Beyonce and JZ is front and center on an article about Kelly Rowland? Why does the author disrespect Kelly and her unborn child by making the assumption that she is trying to follow in Beyonce’s footsteps, that her unborn child will be assistant to Blue Ivy, and that her child will be taking orders at Star Bucks? If I were Kelly, I would be going off right now. But she has more class than that, unlike the person who wrote this BS.”
“So I’m confused was this supposed to be amusing, because it is absolutely not! So happy to see that the majority of readers are disgusted, disappointed, and revolted by this asinine mediocre writing, that is so disrespectful to a mother that is celebrating her first child.”
“What a disrespectful and offensive headline! It wasn’t enough to somehow make Kelly Rowland’s happy news about Beyonce’s baby instead, but then you had to go the extra mile to offend Kelly by implying her baby is less valuable than Beyonce’s, less important, and at best she can expect to spend her future grabbing coffee for Blue Ivy and scheduling her appointments.”
“The beginning of this article is out of line. You’re talking about a baby that hasn’t even been born yet and you’re degrading him or her and the parents. How insensitive and pathetic can you be?”
Considering how excited I personally was to hear about this big news (and just to see her get married and start a new chapter in her life), I don’t really have words for the need to put a damper on what should be a special moment. But what do you think?
