Late Adekunle Mamora, aka Mamok |
An Ebute-Meta Magistrates’ Court has
ordered the remand of a 24-year-old man, Lateef Olajumoke, for the
alleged murder of
Adekunle Mamora, aka Mamok.
Mamok was a close aide to the Oshodi chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo.
Magistrate, Miss. K.A. Ariyo, ordered that Olajumoke, aka Spider, be remanded in prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
PUNCH Metro had reported that
the 46-year-old had gone to a barber’s shop on Mosaku Street, Oshodi on
September 30 when he was attacked by a gang of three.
He reportedly struggled with the men before one of them shot him dead in the head around 8pm.
Our correspondent reported that the killer gang abandoned his corpse atop his car without stealing any of his valuables.
It was reported that the deceased was
killed as a reprisal for the death of a factional leader of the NURTW,
Olayemi Eniola, aka Esi-Oluwo.
Mamok, whose family is based in
the United Kingdom, was alleged to have had a hand in Eniola’s murder,
which his boss, MC Oluomo, had continuously denied.
Detectives at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, took over investigation and arrested Olajumoke.
The police, in a remand warrant brought
before the court, said although he neither confessed to the crime nor
was caught with exhibits, they had fingerprint evidence against him.
The warrant also indicated that witnesses were available to testify against the suspect in court.
He was arraigned on two counts of murder.
The charge read, “That you, Lateef
Olajumoke, aka Spider, and others now at large, on Sepetmber 30, 2015 at
about 8.30pm on Mosaku Street, Oshodi, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial
District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: murder.
“That you and others at large, on the
same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district,
did unlawfully kill one Adekunle Mamora, aged 46 years, by shooting him
with a gun in his head.”
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Matthew
Akhaluode, said the offence was punishable under sections 231 and 221 of
the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant’s plea was not taken.
The prosecutor, based on the remand
warrant, applied that the defendant be kept in prison custody pending
the conclusion of investigations and the release of the legal advice.
Akhaluode said, “We apply that the
defendant be remanded pursuant to Section 264 of the Administration of
Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011. The remand will
enable the police conclude all investigations and obtain legal advice
from the DPP.”
The magistrate, Ariyo, granted the request and remanded Olajumoke in prison.
The matter was adjourned till December 1, 2015.
