Proceedings at the ongoing National Conference was
adjourned after less than an hour sitting on Wednesday following the
death of the wife of the Chairman, Justice Idris Kutigi early this
morning.
Delegates will now resume to continue debates
on the reports of their various committees on Monday, 2 June, since
tomorrow is a public holiday.
Professor Bolaji
Akinyemi, Vice
Chairman of National Conference, announced the sad news
of the death of 70 year-old Maryam to delegates on resumption of plenary
on Wednesday.
Akinyemi informed the delegates that the
eminent jurist’s wife was hospitalised at National Hospital for
sometime before her death.
He noted that Justice
Kutigi, a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, did not allow the sickness of
his wife to affect his work at the conference.
Akinyemi
also told delegates that there would be prayers for the deceased at the
National Mosque later today after which she will be interred.
