an eastern Jerusalem train stop, then got out and began attacking officers with a metal bar in what police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld called "a terrorist attack."
The van hit several cars
on the road before stopping at an intersection in a city neighborhood
and getting out, according to police spokeswoman Luba Samri.
The metal bar-wielding driver was shot and killed by police after leaving the van, she said.
Witness Khaled Husseini said he heard police fire about 20 shots.
Emergency services reported that 14 people were wounded in the attack, including one in critical condition.
Video from the scene
showed emergency response workers in orange vests lifting victims into
waiting ambulances in a chaotic scene. At least one body was laying in
the road covered by a sheet, but it was not clear if that was the van's
driver.
Husseini said he saw five Israeli police officers lying on the road after being wounded by the van.
Israel army radio
announced that the driver of the van was a man from the Shuafat
Palestinian Arab refugee camp in eastern Jerusalem.
