This is a very tough time for Yussuf
Biodun, a barber, and his hawker wife, Kehinde, as one of their
children, Mutiyat, is battling
with a hole in the heart.
Doctors at the Lagos State Teaching
Hospital, Ikeja, confirmed last year that the 18-month-old has the
disease, after a series of tests.
That was after the parents had taken
Mutiyat for tests and treatment at the likes of Mecure Laboratory,
Oshodi; and Massey Street Children Hospital, Lagos.
Kehinde said she first noticed that there was a problem when Mutiyat was about 15 days old.
“We discovered that her neck was unsteady
each time she was breathing. We went to a health centre, from where
they referred us to Massey Hospital.”
For a relevant surgery in India, LASUTH has said that Mutiyat’s parents need N2.3m.
According to Yussuf, he and his wife have
been struggling to keep the child alive since February last year, when
they were first told they needed the sum.
He said that every 15 days, they spent about N5,000 on treatment and drugs.
As a result, the Lagos-based couple, who are from Ila Orangun, Osun State, said they have run out of cash.
They are thus soliciting the support of individuals and organisations, so that they can take Mutiyat to India for the surgery.
Their account details are: Biodun Yussuf
Access Bank, 0039909509.
