Former Central Bank of
Nigeria Governor, Lamido Sanusi, has been turbaned as the new Emir of
Kano. The turbaning, which took place on Monday in Kano, was held amid
heavy Police presence.
The policemen condoned off the area, restricting the movement of people from the venue of the installation.
Sanusi was announced the 14th Emir of Kano to replace the late Ado Bayero, who died on Friday, at the age of 83.

The Emir’s Palace is still completely surrounded by the Police that are refusing all entrance or exit. It appears that Federal coercive power is being deployed to interfere with a 200 year tradition… Sad… Kano has a new Emir. End of the story. Lamido Sanusi was not only on the recommended list of the kingmakers but
was on top of the list,” – Gov Kwankwaso.

State Government has built a befitting building for the large family of
the late emir in Sharada. The keys will be handed over today to the
family to move in,” - Gov Kwankwaso.
12.56pm – “The
appointment of an emir is not a political issue. It is unfortunate that
some enemies of Kano State attempted to politicise this process,” – Gov
Kwankwaso, speaking as the turbaning process continues.
12:47pm - Walin Kano
Mahe Wali gave the opening prayers. The Madaki of Kano that is
responsible for the formal turbanning is speaking now. The Governor will
then give his opening speech in Hausa in accordance with a 200 plus
year tradition – Nasir El-Rufai
12:44pm – The Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has entered the hall and seated. The formal coronation ceremonies are about to begin. Alhamdulillah – Nasir El-Rafai
