So many people had thought the death of
Salawa Abeni’s mother would bring her and her husband, Ayinla
Kollington, together again.
But that was not really to be as the veteran
fuji icon shunned Abeni’s mother’s burial.
But in a chat with Saturday Beats on why
he shunned the burial ceremony, Kollington explained he was at his
wife’s house earlier to console her when he was informed of the death of
her mother but his presence at the burial was not compulsory.
He further stated that he and Salawa
could not live in a house as husband and wife because they are both old
and he has a new wife.
The fuji singer said, “When Salawa
Abeni’s mother died, I went to her house to visit her and I played my
role as a father to my children and as a husband to Salawa Abeni. I
comforted her like any husband would do. It is true that I was not at
the burial ceremony of her mother. It was not compulsory for me to be at
the burial. As long as my children were there, it means I was also
there. They represented me.
“We
are both old and our children are grown. She does not have to live with
me before people recognise that she is still my wife. She does not need
to come to my house to perform the role of a wife because I have a cook
and another wife that lives with me.”
He told Saturday Beats that even though they could not live under the same roof as husband and wife, they could collaborate on a song.
Kollington also said that the reason he is yet to release his album is because of pirates.
“Salawa Abeni and I can collaborate on a
song but there is nothing of such for now. I have not released an album
yet because of pirates. Their activities are really affecting us a lot.
They are not making it possible for us to reap the fruit of our labour. I
would release my next album when I am sure that it would not be
pirated. I doubt I would feature any hip-hop artiste on the album. I
have been in the game for a long time and I doubt I would change my
genre of music. I am too old to consider doing any other type of music
apart from fuji,” he said.
