A 39-year old man, Adekunle Omoyiwola, has been remanded
in police custody for attacking a pastor, Olalekun Sodiq, with cutlass
inside a Cherubim and Seraphim church located at Association Avenue,
Oworotimi, Ijegun area of Lagos State, western Nigeria.
Omoyiwola
reportedly hacked the victim, who is one of the shepherds of the
church, with cutlass in the presence of worshippers during a night
service.
Though the shepherd survived the attack, he
sustained serious injuries on his head and back before he could escape
from Omoyiwola.
Sodiq was later rushed to a hospital where he was being treated.
The sudden attack on the shepherd caused commotion in the church as those who had come for prayers that evening fled for safety.

gathered that Omoyiwola who resides at pipeline area of Iyana Isheri
left his house that night with the cutlass and headed to the church
where he attacked Sodiq.
When arrested, Omoyiwola reportedly admitted committing the offence.
Police sources said Omoyiwola stated that Sodiq betrayed him but refused to say what the pastor did to him.
Rather he asked Sodiq to tell the police what happened between them.
After
interrogation, Omoyiwola was charged before an Ejigbo Magistrate’s
Court with conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, disturbance
and assault under the Criminal Code.
When Omoyiwola was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs M.B. Folami granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will fulfill his bail conditions.
The matter has been adjourned till 7 October, 2014.
