The Ogun State
Police Command has arrested three members of an armed robbery gang alleged to
have been involved in the killings of
no fewer than nine persons in the Ijoko
area of the state.
It also arrested a
landlord, Oludayo Adekunle, for allegedly stealing a car, Toyota Carina E, with
number plate, LNB 961 BU, belonging to another landlord in Sagamu.
Parading the
suspects and eight others on Monday at the command headquarters, Eleweran,
Abeokuta, the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, gave the name of
the suspected robbers as Razak Ogundairo (25), Idowu Tijani (45) and Raimi
Ogunkunle (25).
He said the
suspects had confessed to committing the crimes, adding that they had been
terrorising the people of the Ijoko area for seven years.
Ali said a team of
Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the state stormed their hideout in Ijoko and
arrested Ogundairo, who is said to be the ring leader, with one
double-barrelled cut-to-size pistol and one single-barrelled pistol with 14
live cartridges.
He said, “The
arrest of the suspect, who confessed to have killed five persons in the Ijoko
area, led to the arrest of the two members of the gang.
“The leader of the
gang, Idowu Tijani, confessed to have killed four people, including Soje, Babajeje
and Agali in the Ijoko area.”
Also paraded were
four suspects who allegedly attacked two riot policemen and snatched their
rifles at the Agric Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
He said the men of
he Special Anti-Robbery Squad from Ogun State recovered the stolen arms, and
arrested four suspects.
The items
recovered from them were one AK-47 rifle with serial number, 348417, and nine
rounds of live ammunition; one type 06 rifle with serial number, 07010583, and
one automatic pump-action gun with serial number, 42716.
Ali said the
suspects arrested were 35-year-old Sulaiman Lekuti, aka Epe Sule;
Semiu Alaka, aka Ese Sobo (39); Azeez Gbolahan, aka Eniba
(45); and Teslim Adetunji, aka Tessy (43).
He said, “On
October 2015, some hoodlums at Agric in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, attacked two
PMF personnel and collected their arms. On receipt of the information,
policemen attached to SARS Abeokuta swung into action and arrested the suspects
with the rifles. The case is still under investigation.”
The police also
paraded another set of four suspects arrested by SARS operatives for allegedly
robbing the owner of a Bajaj motorcycle with number plate, DBG 652 UZ, at
gunpoint on Ode-Remo Road.
The suspects’
names were given as Muhammed Ibrahim, Ogunjirin David, Muda Yaya, and Adebayo
Segun.
One locally-made
cut-to-size gun, one live cartridge, one Bajaj motorcycle with number plate,
DGB 652 UZ, and charms were recovered from the suspects.
The landlord,
Adekunle, was paraded for alleged theft of a car and burglary in the Ewu Oluwo
area of Sagamu.
The suspect
allegedly broke into the house of another landlord, Saka Opeoluwa, and stole
the car and N130,000.
He allegedly took
the car to Akoko, Ondo State, where he was arrested while trying to sell it.
