An anti-robbery team at the Ogun State Police Command,
Eleweran, made a major breakthrough when it smashed a 10-man
robbery
gang that has been terrorising Ewekoro Local Government Area of the
state.
Sources said the leader of the gang simply
identified as Abana and two of his gang members were arrested last
Thursday and are currently helping the police in their investigation.
Following
a tip-off, the police swooped on the gang at Sojuola village, in
Ewekoro Local Government area of the state at about 1 am on Thursday.
Among
the items recovered from the robbery gang are AK-47 rifles, pump action
rifles with rounds of ammunition, charms and other weapons.
Baale
of the village, Chief Abiola Ogundele who confirmed their arrest, said
Abana and his gang had been terrorising the villagers since May last
year and that at a stage, he had to relocate from the village for safety
of his life and those of his family.
He said the
matter was initially reported at Olaogun Police Station after which the
matter was transferred to Ewekoro Police Station and from ther,to the
Area Command at Ota. From Ota, it was taken over by Inspector General of
Police Monitoring Unit at Kam-Salem House, Obalende, Lagos.
It was from there that the Ogun State Police Commissioner eventually waded in and arrested Abana and his gang.
Ogundele commended the police in Ogun State for coming to their rescue and urged them to ensure that justice takes its course.
