There was uproar in the Senate on Wednesday when senators
passed 46 bills introduced by Senator Ita Enang into law under 10
minutes.
Senator Enang is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business.
The
rowdy session caused by the speedy passage of the bills led the Senate
President David Mark to request senators not satisfied with the passage
of the bills to report on Thursday with their names and signatures for
consideration.
The Senate suspended Order 79 (1) of the
Senate Standing Orders and deemed all the Bills as having passed first,
second and third readings on the floor of the Senate and concurred to
same before they were passed.
The lawmakers have faced
criticisms over poor performance despite taking a huge chunk of the
nation’s budget as salaries and allowances.
