The priest on Hover Board. |
An unidentified Catholic priest is taking some time to reflect on his
decision to ride a hoverboard at the conclusion of Christmas
Eve Mass, according to religious news site Aleteia.
An official statement from the Diocese of San Pablo in the Phillipines reprimanded
the priest, saying of Mass and the Holy Eucharist, “It is the Church’s highest
form of worship. Consequently, it is not a personal celebration where one can
capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people.” The
Diocese described the incident as a wakeup call for the priest, whom the
Dioecese claims offers his apologies and vows not to repeat the incident.
What does the Bible say about this?
I suppose you could use Ecclesiastes as a rebuke of the priest’s wicked
hoverboard skills. Though Ecclesiastes 7:1-6 is generally interpreted to
be about temptations of feasts and flesh, the passage emphasizes that the
righteous must take a relationship with God seriously. Thou shalt not
hoverboard, and so on.
But I prefer to believe this priest was living life by the Shark Week of
Proverbs, Proverbs 17:22: “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed
spirit dries up the bones.”
Besides, hoverboards may very well be proof of a higher, just power. Take
for example this footage of overall despicable person Mike Tyson losing his
battle with gravity.
